Workshops
in School
Creative writing:
coming out of my own books, I have prepared four writing
lessons at different levels from Grade 3-6. Details of these can
be sent directly to you.
Other creative writing lessons emphasizing poetry and the narrative
form are based on the Greek Myths and reflect the Learning through
the Arts program for Grade 5.
Writing short biographies starts with interviewing another. I
teach older students ways to ask good questions, referring to
Portraits of an Orchestra.
Reading and Dramatisation: of
my own stories and encouraging children to be imaginative at the
Primary level is a wonderful way to relate to young children.
I show how they can have fun with re-working nursery rhymes.
I also give talks about the book-making process and read part
of a novel.
Please email me
for details and costs.
Workshops for Adult Groups
I have facilitated Writing Your Life Story workshops a few times
for Seniors. I usually spread these workshops over four weeks
but I can do an introductory one on its own.
Please contact me for cost.
Some
Background Information about Jane Buttery
Jane grew up in England where she earned a history degree. After
living in Malaysia and travelling in the Far East, she came to
Canada with her husband in 1965.Since then, she has taught and
lived in Essex County. Her interest in this community has led
her to write books about the area. She believes young children
can relate to places they know well such as Colasanti's, the Harrow
Fair and Jack Miner's Bird Sanctuary.
Over ten years, Jane has been involved with the Educational programs
for the Windsor Symphony.
She has written several guides for teachers which have been well
received. It has been a joy to see so many children hear the orchestra
play.
Jane continues her volunteer work with the
Hospice of Windsor and Essex County which she began in 1990.

Moments as a Hospice Volunteer story.
Most recently, Jane has become a lay-reader in her local Anglican
Church and really enjoys leading Bible studies, visiting people
and writing about church events.
But she still makes time to write for children and enjoys visiting
schools to talk about creative writing and her own local books.
Contact her by phone or by email.
She'd love to meet you .
