Workshops

For Adults and Teachers

Workshops for Adult Groups

I have facilitated Writing Your Life Story workshops for seniors. I usually spread these workshops over five weeks but I can do an introductory one on its own if your group would like that shorter information. I have a Power point presentation to show the value of writing your life story. Five weeks of classes of 1 ½ hours covers planning your writing, how to collect and information, photographs and documents, recording on tape, organizing your story and putting a book together to share it with your family. A new session of classes will be held at Leamington Half-Century Club from Tuesday, February 23rd through March.

Please contact me for cost and details.

Workshops in Schools- of interest to teachers

K - Grade 2 Reading and Dramatisation: of my own stories lead to writing. Encouraging young children to be imaginative are a wonderful way to relate to them. They can have fun re-working nursery rhymes; we make up new versions orally. By the grade 2 level, children can produce their own funny poems with confidence based on an easy structure.

Grades 3-6 Creative writing: coming out of my own books, I have prepared different writing lessons at the appropriate level for these students Details of these can be sent directly to interested teachers.

Grades 4-6 How a book is made: this is another power point presentation with added concrete examples of writing pages and art work to show how it is put together. I encourage writing about what they know as my own books reveal my interests.

Grades 7-8 Interviewing Skills: - Writing short biographies starts with knowing how to interviewpeople. I teach older students ways to ask good questions, referring to Portraits of an Orchestra. (now out of print) We act out a sample interview too.

Grade 6-7 Historical Background to An Unlikely Friendship which fits in to their history studies of 19th century. Using a local story, I show how slaves came to Canada and why as well as other immigrants at that time.

Readathons and Book Fairs I am available to come to local Readathons for nothing but the price of my gas. I would like the opportunity to sell some books to you. I give 20% of sales to schools who sell my books at a Book Fair
